Take A Downtown Historical Walking Tour
After you have settled into one of the luxury vacation villas and are looking for a fun thing to do, consider the following:
The Tread of Pioneers Museum will be presenting a FREE easy walking tour every Thursday from June 30 through September 1, 2016. You gather at the Museum, and from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, participants travel past, and get interesting details about, the original town square, nine of the area’s over 150 mineral springs, historic buildings dating back to the late 1800s, homes, newspaper building, and tales of the town’s founders and early settlers.
The cornerstone for the ROUTT COUNTY COURTHOUSE is a three-story building that was completed in December of 1923 at the cost of $122,000.
The GIAMBONI HOUSE was built in 1889 with siding hiding the original log building! This was the home of Swiss brothers Camillo and Henry Giamboni, who were the first to make commercial skis in Steamboat.
The OLD TOWN PUB, built in 1904, was originally the Albany Hotel. From 1914 to 1921, it was a hospital. After the relocation of the hospital, the second floor became the popular Odd Fellows dance hall. The first floor contained a post office, a grocery, an electric store, and a public library from 1924 to 1967.
The CHIEF THEATER was Steamboat’s second motion picture theater and the first equipped for “talkies!”
After the tour, a $1.00 off coupon is given for admission to the Museum, which was a Queen Anne style former home from 1913 to 1956. For more information, call the Tread of Pioneers Museum at (970) 879-2214 or go to treadofpioneers.org.
Then settle back down in your luxury vacation villas for a relaxing and comfortable evening.
